Where Grit Meets Community
Look, I'll be straight with you - I didn't start Pyrethron Forge because I had some grand plan or business degree. I started it 'cause I was tired of Vancouver gyms that felt like meat markets or country clubs. Where's the sweat? Where's the real work?
After competing in Olympic lifting for years and coaching at a couple big-box places, I realized something - people don't need fancy juice bars or Instagram walls. They need a space where they can actually push themselves without feeling judged. A place that's raw, honest, and gets results.
So in 2019, I scraped together everything I had and signed the lease on this old industrial unit. No frills, no BS. Just bars, plates, and enough space to move. That first year? Man, it was tough. But the people who showed up... they got it. They weren't looking for easy - they were looking for real.
We're here to forge strength - not just physical, but mental too. Yeah, you'll lift heavy things and your heart's gonna pound during metcons. But more than that, you'll find out what you're actually made of. We've built something special here - a crew that shows up for each other, pushes through the hard stuff, and celebrates every win, big or small.
This isn't about looking good for summer (though that'll happen). It's about becoming someone who doesn't quit when things get hard. And honestly? That matters way more.

Six years of building something real
Opened our doors with nothing but bare concrete, second-hand equipment, and a vision. Started with just 8 members who believed in what we were building. Those first few months were honestly terrifying - but everyone who walked through that door became family.
Yeah, that year. Shutdowns hit hard, but our community came through. We pivoted to outdoor sessions in parking lots and virtual coaching. Not gonna lie - thought we might lose everything. But our members stuck with us, and we came out stronger.
Hit 150 members and finally got to upgrade our equipment. Added Olympic lifting platforms, brought Sarah on board, and started offering proper nutrition coaching. Things were clicking - people were seeing real results and bringing their friends.
Hosted our first in-house competition and man, the energy was electric. Our athletes started competing externally too - crushing it at local throwdowns. Built out our athletic performance program specifically for competitors. This was when we really became a force.
Jake and Priya joined up, rounding out our coaching lineup. Expanded our space by taking over the unit next door. Added dedicated areas for mobility work and recovery. Hit 300 members and had to start a waitlist for peak hours. Wild.
Running strong with 400+ members who genuinely care about each other. We're not the fanciest gym in Vancouver - not even close. But we've got something special here. A community that shows up, works hard, and lifts each other up. That's what matters. That's what we're about.
